Today was an early start and a special trip to the Australian Zoo. The Zoo is in Beerwah in Queensland, about an hour from here. We took a tour up to the zoo because it only took one hour so we were there when the zoo opened. Our other option was to take the train and that would have taken 3 hours. The zoo was made famous by the Australian crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, who died in 2006. We were at the zoo for 7 hours and actually needed all that time to really see everything. What a wonderful place to see animals! The flora and fauna in the zoo is beautiful and all the animals seem so content in beautiful natural settings. My favorite was the koala area where you literally could walk among the koalas and even pet one. The other favorite was the kangaroo area where we fed kangaroos and even saw a joey (a baby) in his mamas pouch! We loved the wombats, seeing them up close and talking to their zoo keeper. We also got to feed an elephant and see the crocodile show where they explain about crocs and feed one and show off some of the pretty australian birds. I am so glad to have the opportunity to see all these animals. The way you could go right up to the koalas is not something I would ever have the opportunity to do in the states. We got back late so I am very tired. I hope you enjoy the pictures of some of the things we saw and did!
